Want to make money while you walk to and from your shopping, work, or for fun? The best walking apps can do the trick.
We all need to do a little more walking. It’s not just because physical activity helps to promote better health…actually, the survival of our planet may also depend on it.
Apps that pay you to walk and exercise do not pay you a ton of money; however, the added incentive to exercise makes it worthwhile to install them on your phone.

Apps That Pay You To Walk
Some of these mobile apps only reward you for walking, while others track your general physical activities, including swimming, running, and biking, and reward you accordingly.
I have also included side hustle apps that involve walking.
1. Sweatcoin
Sweatcoin is an app that tracks your steps outdoors using your phone’s GPS and accelerometer. It is a very popular app on the Apple Store and Google Play.
The currency on Sweatcoin is referred to as Sweatcoins, and 1,000 steps are equivalent to 0.95 sweatcoins.
You can easily cash out your points by redeeming them for popular gift cards, fitness gear, iPhones, clothing, music downloads, and more.
One of the most sought-after offers on the app is the opportunity to redeem 20,000 sweatcoins for $1,000 or an iPhone.
A regular sweatcoin membership allows you to earn up to 10 sweatcoins per day (or 300 SC/month).
2. Rover
Rover is a side hustle app for dog walkers. While Rover does not qualify as a fitness app, it pays you to walk other people’s dogs. You earn about $20 for 30 minutes or $30 for 1 hour.
The Rover app is free, and following registration and approval, you can easily set your own schedule and rates.
Pet lovers can also use the app to start their dog boarding and doggy daycare business. In addition to dogs, people also pay you to care for their cats, hamsters, fish, goats, and other pets.

3. DoorDash
Become a Dasher and use the Doordash app to make money delivering food within your city. Because you can make deliveries using your bike, DoorDash is one way to earn extra while you exercise and stay fit.
This service is available in thousands of cities in the U.S. and Canada. If you are at least 18 years old, have a Social Security Number, and have access to a vehicle, scooter, or your feet, you are good to go.
DoorDash provides “Dashers” with ongoing support, and you can get paid the same day.
4. Shopkick
Shopkick rewards you with kicks when you shop online and in-store.
Using the Shopkick app, you earn rewards for:
- Walking into a partner store.
- Scanning the barcodes on products.
- Making purchases online and in-store.

Cash out your rewards by redeeming kicks for Amazon, Starbucks, Target, Best Buy, eBay, Walmart, Lowe’s, JC Penney and other popular gift cards.

5. HealthyWage
HealthyWage uses an interesting strategy to get you to lose weight…by letting you bet on yourself.
Using the HealthyWage Prize calculator, you choose how much weight you’d like to lose, how much you are willing to bet and how much time you need to reach your goal.
After entering all these numbers, the calculator shows you how much you stand to win.
The maximum amount of money you can win per challenge is $10,000, and you can participate in up to 10 challenges at a time.
If you meet your weight loss goal, you get paid. Simple as that.
6. Evidation (formerly Achievement)
With more than 3 million downloads and over 930 billion steps logged, the Evidation (Achievement) app is worth checking out.
Achievement rewards you for walking, biking, swimming, meditating, completing surveys, tracking your sleep, logging your meals and more.
It easily connects to over 20 fitness apps, so you can aggregate all your activities together in one place.
You can earn up to 80 points per day and, at redemption, 10,000 points for $10. Rewards are paid out via PayPal.
Based on the highest possible earning rate available on the app, you can get $30 per year.
Users can refer up to 20 friends at 100 points per referral.
7. StepBet
If you need the motivation to get started on your fitness goals, StepBet can help.
The StepBet app allows you to set step goals, join a game and bet on yourself.
If you can meet all your goals for the duration of the game (which can go on for as long as 6 weeks), you share the pot of money with other winners.
StepBet can be synced with your Google Fit, Apple Health, Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, and Samsung Health trackers.
WayBetter, which owns StepBet, also manages other fitness apps like DietBet, RunBet, and SweatBet.
8. Postmates
Postmates is another side hustle app that pays you to deliver food orders and groceries to customers in your area.
You can use your car or motorcycle to facilitate deliveries.
Some great things to note about Postmates are that:

You can redeem it for gift cards, game tickets, sports equipment, sportswear and more.
Easily connect Lympo with your preferred health and fitness tracker and start earning rewards whether you are indoors or outdoors.

11. Walgreens Balance Rewards
If you shop at Walgreens and are a member of their Balance Rewards program, you can also earn rewards for making healthy lifestyle choices.
For example, you can join a health challenge and earn points for every week you meet your physical activity goals.
100 Balance Rewards points are issued per week, and when you complete all four weeks of a specific health challenge, you qualify for a chance to win an additional 2,000 bonus points.
12. Gig Walk
Use the Gig Walk app to earn cash while you complete simple tasks in your area. Brands and retailers advertise gigs on Gigwalk that you can complete during your spare time.
The gigs pay anywhere from $3 to $100 per task and may include visiting a store to confirm product pricing, product availability on the shelves, taking and uploading photos, and more.
